Dear AVS Families,
After careful consideration and discussion with our superintendent, because of the current and anticipated high number of staff and student absences, Auburn Village School will be closed Tuesday, January 11, 2022.
We are treating the day like a snow day with students and teachers at home. Students and teachers will return to school on Wednesday, January 12 and Thursday, January 13. Friday, January 14 will be a no school day, as originally planned.
The well-being of our school communities remains our greatest priority. We are alarmed with the high number of absences across our school these last few days. For example, today over 15% of students, 60% of food service, and over 10% of staff are absent, many COVID-19 related. Over the weekend we received notification of over 20 new positive cases in the school community. We are looking for the additional day to make a difference in absenteeism, and for our students and staff to benefit from the added time at home.
We will be back in touch to give you an update. In the meantime, I encourage you to look after yourselves, your colleagues, your family members, and your friends and to take care.
Please if you question your child’s symptoms, please don’t send them to school. Also, from our experience, some people are testing negative one day, then a day or two later they are testing positive. Because of the high contagiousness of Delta and Omicron variants, and the difficulty diagnosing it early, please keep all students home who are demonstrating any upper respiratory symptoms – until they are symptom-free. If your child becomes COVID or Flu positive, please notify the nurse and administration.
We have created a COVID dashboard, any information regarding the number of cases can be found here. We will no longer be sending weekly emails notifying you of our cases. You will still be receiving emails notifying you of any close contacts.
