Start of School Information

Dear AVS Families,

I hope you are enjoying a wonderful summer. I also hope you are relaxed, recharged and ready to start a new school year. I am so delighted that you are part of our amazing learning community. I welcome and value your positive energy and dedication to excellence in education, and I look forward to working with you and your children.

All signs point to another incredible and productive school year. Our skilled and devoted staff is already planning and preparing for your child(ren). Our enthusiastic office team is registering new families, ordering needed materials and updating student files. Our hard working and conscientious facility crew has spent the entire summer thoroughly cleaning the facility. And, our much-appreciated PTA is gearing up to welcome families, provide volunteer opportunities, and offer other exciting events and programs. We are indeed a joyous and caring community with the common goals of nurturing responsible, caring students and promoting high-level learning.

Important Change in our School Calendar!

Please note that, due to the school being used as a town voting venue, the School Board has voted to change our Professional Development Day to September 13th from September 30th. This means that students will NOT have school on 9/13/22 and 9/30/22 will be a REGULAR SCHOOL DAY. The new calendar can be located here.

School Supply Lists

School supply lists can be found on our website at https://auburn.sau15.net/supply-lists-2022-2023/. Teachers have identified items that your child will need for the upcoming school year.

Please label your child for the first days of school

Parents of kindergarten, first grade, second grade and new to AVS students, please place two labels (masking tape or address labels) on your child’s shirt and backpack each morning for the first few days of school with their first and last name and their grade and homeroom teacher and dismissal plan for the day. This will help our staff to direct them to the right place when they arrive. Please make sure that your child knows how they will be going home at the end of the day and it is reflected in PickUp Patrol accurately.

Middle School students:

Middle school student schedules will be available in PowerSchool on Monday August 22. If your student does not have an active PowerSchool account, please email Jennifer Barnhill for a copy of your child’s schedule after August 22. On the first day of school, and subsequent days, middle school students will report to their homeroom/advisory room (according to their schedule in Powerschool). The students will be directed to the 5th/6th grade wing or the 7th/8th grade wing when they arrive on the 2nd floor. All of the middle school teachers will be outside of their classrooms holding a sign with their name on it to assist the students.

Pickup Patrol and Bus Routes

All families will receive a welcome letter from PickUp Patrol once the bus routes are completed. Once you have received your welcome email from PickUp Patrol, please log into PickUp Patrol  to make sure that you have access and have set a default dismissal plan for your children. When entering the bus number for your child, please check the bus routes posted on the AVS website as there have been changes in bus numbers and routes this year. The bus routes have not been completed at this time but will be posted to our website as soon as they are available. They can be found under the Transportation menu: https://auburn.sau15.net/transportation/

Kindergarten and first grade pick up times

To ease the flow of traffic and help our littlest students at dismissal time, we are asking parents of kindergarten and first grade students to pick up their children at 3:10. We will have a separate line for families of K & 1 students. Students in kindergarten and first grade and their siblings will be called to parent pick up for 3:10. These students will be loaded before we begin dismissal of grades 2-4.

Parents without a kindergarten or first grade student will line up on Eaton Hill Rd. before the first entrance to the safety complex. Parents of kindergarten or first grade students, please mark all of your children (K-4) as “Parent PickUp – K&1 dismissal” in PickUp Patrol.

Parents with a kindergarten or first grade student will come down to the beginning of the Parent PickUp line. Please be very patient with us the first few days of school while we all become familiar with our school routines. To cut down on the traffic at parent pick up, we encourage you to consider using our bus transportation.  It is very important that parents stay in line and not go around other cars for the safety of our staff and students. Please drive carefully and be aware of staff and students in crosswalks in the parking lot as you navigate the parent pickup line.
