SUMMER READING

Incoming 5th-8th Graders & PA Freshman 2022-2023

“Reading is to the mind what exercise is to the body.”

Time spent with text is what increases reading proficiency. This summer, challenge yourself to read widely. Re-read your favorite book. Read an e-book, read an article, read to your younger sibling or another family member. Not enjoying a book? Put it down and grab another!

Below is a list of suggested teen favorites, in all different genres, and all different Lexile ranges. Check them out! Feel free to pick a book of your choice. It doesn’t have to be from the list below.

Students are required to read the following:

Incoming 5th graders at least 2 books, incoming 6th and 7th graders at least 3 books, and incoming 8th graders 4 books. Incoming 9th graders see Pinkerton’s Summer Reading below. Students will receive a “get out of homework free pass” after the completion of the google form regarding the number of books they had to read.

Complete this form after you have read the required number of books for your grade level This will grant you your homework pass when we see you back at school!
