School Opening Information 21-22

Dear AVS Families,

I hope you are enjoying a wonderful summer. I also hope you are relaxed, recharged and ready to start a new school year. I am so delighted that you are part of our amazing learning community. I welcome and value your positive energy and dedication to excellence in education, and I look forward to working with you and your children.

All signs point to another incredible and productive school year. Our skilled and devoted staff is already planning and preparing for your child(ren). Our enthusiastic office team is registering new families, ordering needed materials and updating student files. Our hard working and conscientious facility crew has spent the entire summer thoroughly cleaning the facility. And, our much-appreciated PTA is gearing up to welcome families, provide volunteer opportunities, and offer other exciting events and programs. We are indeed a joyous and caring community with the common goals of nurturing responsible, caring students and promoting high-level learning.

News from our PTA

WELCOME BACK to our returning families and a VERY WARM WELCOME to our new families!

The AVS Parent Teacher Association is already hard at work planning fun and exciting programs for the 2021-2022 school year. Be on the lookout for your PTA packet- which will be sent home with your kiddos! Please check out our new website at avspta.net.  AVS PTA welcomes you to join us in any capacity that works for you and your family…there are so many ways to get involved!

Sandi Leclair, PTA President                                       Andrea Sankovich, Treasurer

Mindy Bedard, Vice President                                     Kristal Diorio, Secretary

Please label your child for the first days of school

Parents of kindergarten, first grade, second grade and new to AVS students, please place two labels (masking tape or address labels) on your child’s shirt and backpack each morning for the first few days of school with their first and last name and their grade and homeroom teacher and dismissal plan for the day. This will help our staff to direct them to the right place when they arrive. Please make sure that your child knows how they will be going home at the end of the day and it is reflected in PickUp Patrol accurately.

Middle School students:

On the first day of school, and subsequent days, middle school students will report to their homeroom/advisory room (according to their schedule in Powerschool). The students will be directed to the 5th/6th grade wing or the 7th/8th grade wing when they arrive on the 2nd floor. All of the middle school teachers will be outside of their classrooms holding a sign with their name on it to assist the students.

Pickup Patrol and Bus Routes

Once you have received your welcome email from PickUp Patrol, please log into PickUp Patrol  to make sure that you have access and have set a default dismissal plan for your children. When entering the bus number for your child, please check the bus routes posted on the AVS website. There were changes made to some bus routes to accommodate new enrollments. The bus routes have been posted to our website and can be found under the Transportation menu: https://auburn.sau15.net/transportation/

Kindergarten and first grade pick up times

To ease the flow of traffic and help our littlest students at dismissal time, we are asking parents of kindergarten and first grade students to pick up their children at 3:15. We will have a separate line for families of K & 1 students. Students in kindergarten and first grade and their siblings will be called to parent pick up for 3:15. These students will be loaded before we begin dismissal of grades 2-4.

Parents without a kindergarten or first grade student will line up along the sidewalk beginning where the cemetery and the back parking lot meet. Parents of kindergarten or first grade students, please mark all of your children (K-4) as “Parent PickUp – K&1 dismissal” in PickUp Patrol.

Parents with a kindergarten or first grade student will come down to the beginning of the Parent PickUp line. Please be very patient with us the first few days of school while we develop these new routines. We are anticipating a high volume of pick up students. It is very important that parents stay in line and not go around other cars for the safety of our staff and students.

Remote Learning Contract

In the event that we are in a remote learning situation at some point during the school year, we are asking that ALL students complete the remote learning contract that is coming home with your child on the first day of school. The contract outlines several procedures and guidelines that will need to be followed in remote learning. For students in K-2, please replace the Schoology platform with SeeSaw in this contract as this is the platform used in K-2. One form should be completed for each child.

Looking forward to seeing you all on September 1st! Thank you for your continued support and as we work together as a school community inspiring our children to strive for and achieve their goals.

All my best,
